The Importance of Mommy Time

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

Today I thought I'd talk about something I love very very much: Mommy time. Don't mistake me, I love being a Mom, it's the best thing I've ever done, and I love spending time with my boy, especially now that he's a bit older, and he's developing a great personality. But there's just something about being nice to yourself that makes life a little better.  To that end, it's Mommy time!

There was a time when I thought that sending David off to school and coming back home counted as Mommy time, but when you're home all day, doing the same old, same old, it loses its appeal rather quickly. So.... Sometimes, a change of venue is in order. I don't have much in the way of money, so any time I can get out, it's a treat for me.

Today, Mommy time sees me at Second Cup, enjoying a nice cup of French vanilla coffee, and surfing the net. And blogging! I can do these things at home, sure, but it's nice to have a change of scenery, as well as a chance to make myself look all pretty and sit and watch the world go by. It's relaxing, and when I'm done, I can go pick up David, and find out all about what he did at school, and be happy to be together again.

Cheers!
Tara

  1. I needed to read this. How sad is it that I consider going to work my mommy time? I'm bad though. When I get my mommy time, I do nothing but miss Aidan. I tell my mom I need a break and I take a good break. My mom watches him overnight and I go out with friends and let loose but then I spend most of the time wondering if he's ok etc.

  2. Ha ha, E-Ka, I hear you. David's Gramma has been taking him almost every weekend, and I sit at home wasting the time. I've always believed, but I need to work on putting it into practice, that you can't take care of anyone else if you can't take care of yourself. It's a hard thing for a mom to do, but it needs to be done.

And work used to be Mommy time too. Sad but true.

  3. You are so wise! Even though my baby is all grown up now.....I remember those days when he was little. I was a single mom.....so the idea of time just for me was so foreign. Now that I know better I now take "Me" time. Which could be as simple as sitting and reading in a coffee shop or going out with friends. So much better than popping Prozac!

  4. I'm not a mommy, so it's not the same, but I love my girl time. My fiancee and I used to live in Edmonton and if he worked a Saturday I would go buy a new book and sit in a Starbucks all day long. I'd read, drink coffee and sometimes write. It's nice to take some time for yourself and I read some great books that summer.

  5. I think in a lot of ways it is the same, just with a different name. We have so many demands on us in our lives, and sometimes we lose sight of the fact that we are deserving of some love too. Recharging yourself benefits everyone around you, since you can give more.
